Lodges
Splendens
A fifteen-minute stroll away from The Beckford, these two luxurious lodges were first built as guest accommodation for Fonthill Splendens – regular guests then included Byron, Nelson and Turner, so you will be in good company. Guests arrive to a well-stocked fridge with local produce enabling you to “cook your own breakfast”. The bedroom and roll top bath are on a mezzanine level gazing out over some of the most beautiful views in Wiltshire. Due to the secluded location of the lodges we do not allow dogs under any circumstances. Downstairs there is a sitting room with a simple kitchen, wood-burning stove with plenty of logs to keep you warm and all mod cons, in a country chic style. Both our lodges are accessible by car and there is ample parking available. We do ask if you can please ensure check-in is between 4 and 6pm as we want to show you around.
The Arch
The great Arch sits at the entrance to the original Fonthill Estate and is a unique place to stay. Built in 1755 to act as a grand arrival to the Estate, it is listed Grade 1 for its historical importance. The Arch is a 25-minute walk or 3 minute drive from The Beckford Arms through the Estate parkland. However, if you would like to explore further around the lovely Wiltshire countryside, we suggest travelling by car.
The building is arranged over three floors. On the ground floor there is: a boot room, pantry, kitchen, sitting room (with wood-burner) and shower room. The first floor has: a large bedroom with freestanding bath overlooking the Fonthill Lake and an en-suite bathroom. The top floor has full-size bunk beds (suitable for children aged 3 and above) and all floors are connected by a stone spiral staircase. We have taken great care over the interior decoration using: a selection of Farrow & Ball’s 2022 colours and with fabrics from Buchanan Studio, Colefax & Fowler, Morris & Co and Chelsea Textiles to create a style complementing the fascinating history of the building.
Guests will arrive at their own private parking space in the woods above, and descend down a lit walkway. The Arch is an extraordinary piece of architecture, positioned at the entrance to one of the great British country estates and designed with all the modern touches that will make your stay truly memorable.
Please note The Arch now allows cars to pass through it, rather than carriages when it was built, so there is road noise and you need to be careful, particularly so, if staying with children. Due to the secluded location of The Arch we do not allow dogs under any circumstances. We do ask if you can please ensure check-in is between 4 and 6pm as we want to show you around.
** Please note the Arch is not suitable or safe for children under 3 years old as it has lots of different levels, a wood-burning stove and a steep spiral staircase. We do not allow a travel cot to be taken upstairs for these reasons.
Kids
Travel cots are available and come with a charge of £10. Rooms one and two interconnect and so are great for families and the Attic Room has a separate small bedroom for up to two children. There is an extra charge of £30 for children over the age of three staying in the Attic Rooms to cover laundry and breakfast.
Groups
The Beckford is often frequented by a mixture of locals, families, diners and those visiting overnight from out of town. It is really important to us that each of our guests has an enjoyable experience with full access to our facilities. As such, the pub does not lend itself to group bookings & weddings.
Dogs
Well behaved dogs are allowed in rooms 01 & 06 here at the pub, although we do ask for a little extra charge to cover the additional housekeeping cost, please do ask if this room is available before booking. Dogs are allowed in all public areas downstairs and we will provide water, bones and affection where desired.
